  • Ordinary

This type of construction is also known as Brick & Joist structures. This is where non-combustible(Fire resistant) materials are used. Schools and houses all fall under this type. It also enables easy ventilation. However, some of the materials used are combustible such as wood which is used to make the floor, frames and ceilings.

  • Heavy Timber.

In this type of construction, Combustible materials are used to contract the major parts of the building. Large pieces of timber are used and these are connected using metal plates and bolts to make it firm. This type of construction was more common in the 90s.

  • Wood-Frame

This is the only type of construction that allows combustible exterior walls. Walls, floors, roofs and frames are made of wood and other fire supporting materials. It is commonly used for single family homes and garages.
